The fire and emergency services wing of the Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC) issued orders for setting up nine temporary fire stations across the city on Monday to deal with any emergency during and around Diwali.
The department has also cancelled leaves and holidays of all 280 employees of the fire department, including clerical staff, from Monday till Diwali. The nine temporary fire stations will be set up either near crucial markets of the city or around venues where cracker markets will be allowed. These nine venues are: Jama Masjid ground, Sector 20; housing board light point, Manimajra; mandi ground, Sector 29; the open area in Sector 49; open area in Ram Darbar, Phase 2; near light point of Sector 45 46; in the area Nehru Park in Sector 22; in the open area in Sector 43 near Attawa roundabout; and near the gurdwara in Dhanas. “The temporary stations will be set up on Wednesday , a day before Di wali, and will remain there till late night on Diwali. Four firemen will be present at each temporary fire station round-the-clock for these two days to deal with any fire-related emergency . The decision has been taken, so that we can deal with any fire emergency call quickly during rush hours,” said an official of the MC.
