Chandigarh based Class 10th girl student commits suicide before her exams. In a shocking update, student suicides are pretty common especially among Class 10th & 12th ones in the city. The Class X girl ended her life at her residence in Mullanpur area near Chandigarh yesterday. In a statement of her father recorded by the police officials, the victim was under immense pressure and stress due to upcoming exams. Unable to take on the exam pressure, this 17-year old girl took poison in order to set herself free from the quagmire of the system. Hailing from Mullanpur area in New Chandigarh, the victim studies in a Government School in Dhanas.
Identified as Preeti, the seventeen year old girl took the extreme step as she was not good in her studies, said by father in his statement. The girl went to her tuition classes after coming from where took her meals. Thereafter, she went to her room directly wherein she took the poison and ended her life.
She was instantaneously rushed to the Government Hospital in Sector-16, Chandigarh where doctors declared her brought dead. The police has already recorded the statement of victim’s relatives. The officials have also carried forward the proceedings as per law under Section 174 of the the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Chandigarh being the education city attracts many students from nearby areas. Chandigarh had a series of 7 suicides last year in March 2017 with one already related to the same issue this year. Exam stress builds up to such a high level that students find it easier to end their lives than appearing for the tests.
Central Board of Secondary Education has reached out to candidates by virtue of their toll-free helpline numbers.
