CHANDIGARH: At a time when Punjab has seen a string of drug overdose deaths, Chandigarh has agreed to set up a facility to conduct dope tests on prospective ahead of a marriage. The Union Territory authorities are even ready to provide medical kits for the test, provided the groom gives his consent.
The authorities informed the Punjab and Haryana high court recently that such tests were feasible after the court observed last year that it had come across many matrimonial disputes where the wives accused their husbands of being addicts. Sources said that if the facility is set up, it will be the first of its kind in the country.
