To one’s surprise, Chandigarh is currently gearing up to have its first flyover project after receiving the administrative approval for the same by the Governor of Punjab as well as the UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore.

The first ever flyover project of Chandigarh which will be at the Tribune roundabout is likely to be kicked-off as soon as the required recommendations, as well as the reports from the concerned officials, are received by the authorities. The Tribune Chowk in Chandigarh happens to be an important one as it happens to be one of the most common and the busiest landmarks of the City.

Chandigarh’s First Flyover Project Announced | Check Details

The demand for Chandigarh’s Flyover Project was given a rise by MP Kirron Kher which was later announced by the Nitin Gadkari who is the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways when he visited the City Beautiful Chandigarh back in 2016.

As per the related sources, the administration along with the approval for the Chandigarh flyover project is likely to send a recommendation as well as a consultant report. This shall be sent to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Transport Ministry who will not only be funding the project but the overall flyover project work will also be implemented by the same. After as many as 5 attempts which failed, the administration managed to rope in the consultant for an amount of Rs. 1.85 crores as a fee for the project.

Chandigarh Flyover At Tribune Chowk | Here’s Why

The Administration agreed for the implementation of the project after a presentation was made in front of the high-level committee of the Chandigarh Administration by Stup Constructions which is a Mumbai based consultant. The overall expenditure on the Chandigarh flyover project is likely to cost an amount of Rs. 1,600 crores.

Objections were raised that the overbridges and flyovers should not be made as they are likely to deteriorate the heritage of the City Beautiful. But, the flyover on the Tribune Chowk is known to be on the National Highway and that the heritage value of Chandigarh will experience no kind of backseat.
