Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu
Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said here today at least 95 per cent of sewers in Punjab towns were blocked.
“Recently, it took two days for the MC to identify a point of sewer blockage in Patiala,” he told the media.
The minister asked for “some time” before the Congress government could show results. “Not even one government sewage-treatment plant was working when the Congress took over. Now, no less than 13 are functional. There will be at least 15 sewerage suction machines in a fortnight.”
On the rape case against former SAD leader Sucha Singh Langah, Sidhu said, “People can’t believe the man was in line for the top SGPC post. People may not like the Congress, but the hatred for Langah will surely lead to Sunil Jakhar’s victory.”
He said Punjab had decided to give “serais” on rent for weddings and other functions. Some palaces were being converted into hotels. “Tourism has the potential to generate far greater revenue than it is generating at present,” the minister added.
