6 nurses for baby’s care after father’s bid to sell her
“Manjit Baby”, the newborn whose father has been arrested for bid to sell her at the Civil Hospital, Phase 6, Mohali, is a VIP guest at the hospital.
Six staff nurses have been deputed to take care of the newborn, who is being called Manjit Baby (Manjit is name of her mother) by doctors and the paramedical staff, in shifts round the clock. “Our paediatrician, Dr Tejwir Singh, who is treating the baby, is also available any moment for her,” said Dr Manjit Singh, an SMO at the hospital. The staff nurses — Manpreet Bagga, Manpreet Cheema, Rozy Rani, Rekha, Kanika and Navdeep — are happy over the rapid improvement in the health of Manjit Baby, who has been kept in the ICU of the hospital.
Terming her a star baby in the hospital, Manpreet said, “We are all very happy as the baby has started taking feed properly and her condition is improving tremendously. She is very cute.”
Another staff member said most of the staff members came to see her every now and then. “Everybody is concerned about her and curious about her well-being here,” said Dr Tejwir Singh.
Meanwhile, the four-member Child Welfare Committee of the district administration will meet on Friday to determine the next course of action in connection with Manjit Baby’s future.
Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, Navpreet Kaur, Mohali District Child Protection Officer, said the committee would look into the matter.
According to sources, Manjit Kaur, mother of the baby, is recuperating at the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, while the baby’s father, Jaspal Singh, has been sent to judicial custody by the court.
Two brothers (aged 10 and five) of the baby are staying with their neighbours.
