The Tricity is talking about
Punjab polls are closing in. The Parkash Singh Badal government is hammering away at the work done on its roads across the state. A hoarding highlighting the 102 high-elevation bridges, 65 railway over-bridges/under-bridges and four flyovers that the government has built over its nine years in power has been put up in Mohali on the road separating Sectors 71 and 72.
Roads yes: Safe for use, a big no

The figures, though, gloss over a major problem.
The road, on which the ‘proclamation’ stands tall leads to the airport road that is in terrible condition and badly needs repair. Stray cattle is another nuisance on the road. The result is that it is among the most dangerous roads in the state and has already earned the epithet of a ‘Killer Road’ for all the accidents that happen here — 25 on the last count and rising by the day.
Guv no more informal!
In September, when Union home minister Rajnath Singh was at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, to inaugurate the E-Block of the hospital, VP Singh Badnore had spent just a few days as UT administrator. His informal approach became a talking point when he addressed MP Kirron Kher as ‘my friend Kirron’ during his speech. Cut to October 17. The occasion was the Regional Editors’ Conference organised by the Press Information Bureau. All three were on the dais again: Rajnath, Badnore and Kher. But this time, the governor addressed her like any other person in that position would do: ‘Madam Kirron Kher’.”
Airport: Chandigarh or Mohali
Punjab and Haryana governments have been engaged in a row over the name of international airport at Chandigarh and Mohali for a long time now. When the maiden international flight took off from here last month, the Punjab government had placed advertisements all over, calling it Mohali airport. The Haryana government objected to this.
Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal continues to call it Chandigarh airport. On Tuesday, he tweeted that he greeted prime minister Narendra Modi at the ‘Chandigarh Airport’. Meanwhile, the Punjab government can derive some solace from socialite Suhel Seth’s tweet that the ‘spanking Mohali airport is wonderful’.
Talking point on FB
The weather is changing. Nights are colder, days are shorter. Punjab chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal puts it a little differently on his Facebook post: “Cabinet reshuffle: Summer clothes in, winter clothes out.”
