Waterman of India Mentioned Sukhna as Dead but Can be Revived

According to the waterman of India, The very famous Sukhna Lake is now considered dead in the present time period and this is said because of the excessive silting but can also be restored and revived. This statement is given by the famous water conservationist, Dr. Rajendra Singh which is also popularly known as “Waterman of India”. He had visited the Punjab University recently in order to attend their very first regional conference on the environment theme. He was talking about the present condition of the Sukhna Lake and is thinking about the different ways and steps to be taken in order to save Sukhna Lake and as we all know that he has already rejuvenated about 11 dead rivers within past 35 years by using various related scientific solutions. The main reason for this problem is the type of soil found in this area which is quite fragile and absent of greenery within the catchment area and during the rainy season the soil erodes and therefore, it is proved that the area surrounded to this lake is considered very ecological sensitive.

The accumulation of silting will start which results in drying of the lake and after that, the overall capacity of the lake to hold and recharge water will lost due to this silting. There are also many possible options through which we can restore by the coming time and therefore, we can renovate the Sukhna Lake. The one of the very effective solution to this problem completely understands the overall mapping of the aquifers along with the de-silting in order to target the connection to the nature. We should try to go for de-silting this lake by opting the various effective scientific ways and it is true that it can cost little investment at starting. He is also completely ready to add water from the Bhakra Dam to this lake keeping in mind that the diversity within the lake should not get affected.

According to the building structure and planning of the Chandigarh city, it is possible in order to make this city completely independent and self reliant when it comes to saving water. But, this can be done only when the people living there should contribute in this work and save water and conserve it by using various methods. So, the main thing is, we need to spread awareness among maximum number of people related to conserve water.
